Cooking this week

Recipes I've tried from my collection this week:

Pepper Sirlion Steak
(gave me ideas for other options but recipe is bland. didn't add a lot of flavor to steak. steak was very tender but not sure if from steak itself or from recipe helper.)

1 (2 1/2 pound) sirloin steak
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup minced onion
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon ground pepper
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard

Lightly score edges of steak at 1 inch intervals. Preheat grill or broiler.
Combine butter, onion, Worestershire sauce, pepper and mustard in a small saucepan. Heat, stirring continually, over low heat, until butter melts. Reserve 1/4 of the mixture.
Place steak on grill or broiler pan. Brush steak with butter mixture. Cook, basting frequently with butter mixture, about 6 minutes per side for medium.
Place steak on serving platter. Cut thin slices across the grain. Drizzle reserved butter mixture over steak.

Monkey Bread I
(have made versions of this bread before. have a couple more recipes of this variety to try. very easy recipe. liked the idea of cutting the dough. fun. would alter recipe to pour butter/sugar mixture in layers and add more cinnamon. did make a nice slightly crunchy sugar top with gooey bottom. would make again)

3 (12 ounce) packages of refrigerated biscuit dough
1 cup white sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 cup margarine
1 cup packed brown sugar

Preheat over to 350 degrees. Grease one 9 or 10 inch tube pan.
Mix white sugar and cinnamon in a plastic bag. Cut biscuits into quarters. Shake 6 to 8 pieces in the sugar cinnamon mix. Arrange pieces in the bottom of the prepared pan. Continue until all biscuits are coated and placed in pan.
In a small saucepan, melt the margarine with the brown sugar over medium heat. Boil for 1 minute. Pour over the biscuits.
Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. Let bread cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a plate. Do not cut. The bread just pulls apart.

Potato Gratin
This recipe was so horrible that I'm not even bothering to type it out. After trying to salvage food, the final product turned into loaded mashed potatoes.

  1. Monkey bread sounds delicious! I've never heard of it before. Is it kind of like a cinnamon roll but in bread form?
