My Thoughts: Hypocrisy by D.M. Annechino

This My Thoughts segment is part of a book tour for iRead Book Tour.  Thank you, Linda Fabiani for forwarding book to me.

Because the author posed several questions to readers in the back of the book, I'm going to follow his specific questions.

The Gist:
"Dr. Lauren Crawford is a brilliant research scientist who discovers a revolutionary treatment for cancer that not only extends life, but much improves the quality of life for terminal cancer patients....Two New York City homicide detectives, Amaris Dupree and T.J. Brown, are assigned to..investigate Dr Crawford's murder.  The detectives evaluate the circumstances surrounding Dr. Crawford's death, and follow a trail of clues that exposes a sequence of startling facts."

 The Questions:

Did you find the book engaging - did it make you want to turn the pages?
For the most part, I was engaged in the book.  I didn't want to quit the book at any point.  However, I did not find it to be the most engaging of books.  A few places were redundant.  I would have liked a little less predictability.

Were Dupree and T.J. fully developed?
Yes, the characters were very developed.  I liked their back story almost more than I liked the plot of the novel.

Who was your favorite character?
My favorite character was Maggie Hansen.  She's one badass bitch.

What did you think of the plot?
I liked the premise of the story.  I found it interesting that the climax, the part in a murder mystery where I read as fast as possible, happened a few chapters from the end of the book versus as the very end.  I enjoyed the wrapup that Annechino did at the end.

Was the story plausible, original?
I know nothing about the medical world so I would say Yes I found the story plausible and parts of it original.  There were some instances that seemed like any other murder mystery but I've found that with other novels as well so I don't count that as a flaw against the book.  You can only have so many completely original stories.  With all the novels out there in the world, stuff is going to overlap.

Did any plot twists surprise you?
Yes the epilogue surprised me.  At first, I suspected it but then completely dismissed it.  Then Wham, there it was.  And I can't tell you what "it" was or the story will be ruined.  You will have to read the book.

Overall, what did you like or dislike about Hypocrisy?
Overall, I did like the book.  Will it be on my favorites list for 2014? probably not but it was enjoyable and easy to read. I would be willing to read another by Annechino.
