The 2011 Slice of Life Challenge is ON! This challenge is hosted by Two Writing Teachers and carries through the month of March. The idea is to write a daily Slice of Life post in order to create a community of writers. For the past two years I have participated and every year I get better at posting every day. Ah, this year I feel is the year I will actually complete the challenge.
My Slice:
Today is March 1st. I love new beginnings. Fresh starts. Opening days. New challenges. New books. The feeling of anticipation and excitement of something new is exhilarating. I love it. The anticipation of the new month and all the potential that may come started for me last week. That's a whole week of feeling giddy. Does it do anything for you? Now the feeling of starting something fresh will last for at least another week. I always hope to make this feeling last longer and longer. It reminds me of The Happiness Project. The feeling of being happy is strived for by so many. Who doesn't want to be happy all the time?
Sometimes it seems as if it takes so much effort to be giddy and happy; other times not so much. The mere mention of new books is enough to make me happy. Or waking up and hearing birds chirping makes me happy. (why, I don't know cause I LOVE winter)
New beginnings makes me feel like you get a new lease on life. You can sweep the bad of last month or last week or last year away. You can reflect on what you may have learned from the experiences and make way for improvements. Mondays are dreadful for most as it signifies the beginning of the work week but what if you look at it as the beginning to start afresh of something instead. Diets are started on Mondays, exercise programs and the like are started on Mondays. I like Mondays. I feel renewed on Mondays. Today's not a Monday but close enough.
Here's to the beginning of this Challenge! Good luck fellow Slicers.

I will be interested to hear about this book. I have seen it in the store. Enjoy your fresh start.
ReplyDeleteReading your post makes me feel like I just visited an "old" friend. Looking forward to slicing with you this month. I, too, have plans to write about beginnings today.

I agree with you on fresh starts. I have been anticipating this challenge and worrying about the everyday aspect. I've been doing Tuesday slices for about 5 weeks to get a taste. I hope to be able to keep it up. It's good to set goals.
ReplyDeleteI love new beginnings.
ReplyDeleteYou have made me more excited by your upbeat message. Because this is my first time, I've mostly been nervous. Thanks for making me excited for the newness of it all.
ReplyDeleteBree,
ReplyDeleteGlad you like Mondays. Great thinking and sharing, but I am not too sure you convinced me to want to jump right out of bed on Monday mornings.
Juliann - if you are referring to The Happiness Project, I read that last year. Highly recommend it if you like self-help type books. I took lots of notes and passed it on to a friend this year.
ReplyDeleteRuth - thanks. I appreciate your words.
Elsie - Good luck. I usually remember to Slice for 2 weeks then forget a day which throws me way off then.
LiteracySpark - me too. Good luck
TeacherDance - Dont be nervous. It's fun to read others Slices.
Tony - a little confession, Mondays are actually the beginning of my weekend which makes them much better and I usually spend them in my pajamas recouperating from my 12 hr weekend shifts. Dont ask me to ever start anything on a Friday, it would suck!
