My Thoughts:
I believe this is the first book I've read with a Mexican influence aside from stories assigned by school. Hard to believe considering the amount of books I've read. I thoroughly enjoyed McDonald's book. At one point while reading, I gasped out loud and my daughter said, "Mom, what's the matter?" "Nothing dear, its just the book. It's really good and I didn't want *** to happen." I can't write it because it would give some of the story away.
The story is told in current time with flashbacks of Tell's life. Tell is the new sheriff of New Austin. The three main police officers have different views and ways of handling the influx of legal and illegal Mexicans. Some ways you will cheer and others will make you uncomfortable and mad. Read it, you'll like it.

I almost skipped this review thinking, "This is definitely not the kind of book I read." Then I caught a glimpse of your response and decided to go back and read the whole thing. I'm glad I did! I put this book on my GoodReads To-Read list so I can remember to pick this up at the library!

ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. Thanks for an amazing book. You really got me into the story. At the ending, I had to put book down cause I was starting to get mad. I didn't want my characters to die. Obviously I finished book. Had to. Had to find out what happened. I was totally into the book.
